The rapidly evolving nature of current information environments and applications gives rise to the necessity for rapid and flexible interactions among information systems that foster component interoperability and cooperation. In this talk we will present our vision of how such systems can be developed. We will introduce the notion of Middle Agents and present a middle agent typology and corresponding communication protocols. In addition, we present LARKS, a language that enables heterogeneous information systems to interoperate.
